Filling up the house with Batman

Danielle has been playing Arkham City for the past two days nonstop.  I was planning to get to the mail first so I could have first dibs but I had to take the dogs to the vet for an appointment she made for mid-afternoon about two months earlier that she forgot to tell me about...  she can be very conniving at times.  I'll probably get to it in December.  I find it hilarious that she now plays video games more than I did during the PS1/PS2 generations.  Now I can barely get time on the PS3.  Even though I don't play as many games as I used to thanks to the series I used to like having gone to shit (Final Fantasy, etc.) or having stopped being made (looking at you SEGA).  Thank goodness I'll be getting Skyrim for the PC or I would never have time to play it thanks to all the games she'll be playing next month on the PS3 (Uncharted 3, Sonic, I can't remember the other six or seven she rattled off to me).  At least I'm getting to play Skyward Sword first because we arranged that in a deal trading off my rights to Uncharted 3 and Dark Souls to her.  Arkham City was first come, first serve but she knew she screwed me out of it months before, lol.  I might pick up another PS3 for the living room over Black Friday because it makes sense to have another for parties and with the upcoming living arrangements.

One of our closest friends almost had her apartment broken into while she was at home so she's staying with us throughout February until she can find a new place.  Plus my little brother is staying with us from mid-December through February because he's back from Italy for the holiday season.  Glad we have a guest room and the basement has a pull out couch.  Glad we don't have any kids yet either... which is going to be a big discussion between both of our extended families come Thanksgiving and Christmas... as it has been every year since we started living together.  Danielle says she's going to write a series of books called "Gossip Asshole Extended Family, Especially You Grandma" based on our families.

Life is good though and the Halloween party we are throwing should be great.

Way to go Phillies.  All the pitching in the world doesn't mean jack if you can't hit for shit.  Thought management would have learned this after last year.

R.I.P Steve Jobs.  Thank you for your technological innovations and for taking a gamble with Pixar.  It paid off.

Resident Evil

First weekend in a long time where I have the house all to myself.  Just a relaxing three days without hassle.  Told my friends I'm chilling alone for the most part (after a hectic month) but I might stop by at the party Sam is throwing for the NLDS game on Saturday.  Going to catch up on the 90s Nickelodeon shows on my DVR.  A few episodes of Doug and about 15 episodes each of Rocko's Modern Life and Hey Arnold!  I have a few Dragon Ball Z movies recorded as well.  An almost perfect 90s marathon minus Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Legends of the Hidden Temple (they show the completed monkey in the credits, how in the world can you fuck up in that room if you watch the show?), and actually plenty of other shows...  too many to name.

Off topic, I really want to watch Supermarket Sweep again.  That show was awesome.  Re-runs used to be on years ago on a channel called PAX or something but the channel was changed or doesn't exist now.

I also have Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, 4 HD, 5 Gold Edition, and Code Veronica X HD all waiting to be played on my PS3, along with the new multiplayer Castlevania game I just bought today (not counting the many more games we haven't even opened yet).  I would have had the first three Resident Evil games done by now but my girlfriend was hogging the PS3 for the past two weeks playing them.  She's off with her mom shopping at the outlets for the weekend so I want to get a few games played because I know she'll be right back to playing on Tuesday when she gets back.  Plus she keeps saying we have to co-op RE5 together.

So far this weekend is looking great so with my luck one of the dogs will get sick and I'll end up wasting a day at the vet...  Better charge up the 3DS and order a book or two just in case.

Kids These Days...
journey2

Last night we went to a friend's apartment for a small party (dinner and watching the football game).  I volunteered to take the trash out after dinner to be polite.  The complex's dumpsters were all clumped together on the other side of the complex but not the incredibly long distance my friend constantly complained about when she told me the owner's were taking away each building's dumpster and just have four in one area for the entire complex.  Bad idea considering there was trash piled all around the dumpster area because the four dumpsters were overfilled.  Huge complex, four trash bins.  Go figure.

Anyways, there were five kids going through the trash and riding their bikes around the circle where the dumpsters were.  They couldn't have been more than six or seven years old.  I throw the trash away and start walking back but then I hear one kid start calling his friends the n-word and using the f-word.  I turn around and the one white kid (the other four were black) was spouting phrases that either begin or end with the word.  He yelled it six times to his friends.  His friends seemed to not mind which made me think that this kid speaks like this all the time around them.  Either he learned it from his parents or his friends.

I asked my friend if she hears kids screaming the n-word and obscenities when she goes outside and she said, "All the time, but most of the parents who live here are assholes who ignore their children so what can you expect?  Asshole parents = asshole children.  I was a bit shocked when I first heard the kids around here but every kid speaks like that, I'm not exaggerating.  Black, white, latino, all of them.  Parents don't care, kids don't even understand the words they are saying, they just hear and repeat.  Some kids can't even say a sentence without using the n-word, they just call everything and everyone it for some reason.  Gives you hope for future generations doesn't it?"

Then we started talking about when we were kids and actually had to do homework before we were able to go outside.  She said kids come right home from school and just stay outside until night falls.  I guess I'm ignorant of how things changed (mainly because I haven't been around kids and don't live near kids) and we both felt very old, even though we are both only 26, after reminicing and discussing what is different in kids today from us when we were kids.  She did laugh about how she wanted to be a teacher when she was younger but changed her major in her sophomore year at college.  Kids today make her feel it was the best decision she has ever made.

Overreaction and Anger Management

Some people freak out over the most inane, trivial shit.  I mean truly ridiculous things that influence a person's life in no meaningful way whatsoever, like if someone accidently bumps into them which causes them to move an inch.  That's what I saw today.  Even after the dude apologized, the lady flipped out and gave him this evil stare and yelled.  I would have loved for the guy to say something back but he apologized twice as he was getting yelled at and moved on.  If it was me I probably would have at least told her to calm down and if she wouldn't, then I would make some snarky remark about getting in my Tardis and traveling back in time to prevent myself from bumping her because clearly that shoulder brush was traumatizing enough to ruin her day.  Everyone watching this little event had a look of, "WTF is wrong with this lady?" on their faces, including me.  The normal reaction would be simply to accept the apology or say, "It's ok, I'm completely not hurt or anything so there's no reason to lose my shit."  The guy probably wanted to get as far away from the lady acting crazy as possible so I don't blame him.

Makes me wonder what this person's reaction would be when something legitimate happens to them, such as being involved in an accident that causes them money or actual harm.  I can't imagine how this lady would react if she got into a car accident or something along those lines.  Would her head just explode because it couldn't hold in the anger?  Would she kill the other driver?  If she can blow a gasket when she gets grazed on the shoulder by accident... who knows what she would do.  The look she gave the guy was so meanacing you would think the dude killed her dog or burned down her house.

I don't know.  Some fucking people...

I bought a 3DS thanks to certain stores dropping the price early so I can get myself those 20 free games as well as save $80.  I honestly wouldn't have ever picked up the system probably but this deal was too good to pass up.  First time I've bought a handheld system since the old Game Boy Advance.  I was going to pick up three games for it but was stuck with only Zelda.  The only 3DS game worth playing so far.
