Steam and Migration

I can't believe how much cash I have dropped on Steam since I signed up for it years ago.  Granted I got my money's worth in great games (many for very cheap) but these holiday sales are ridiculous and it adds up.  I already picked up 7 games (totaling less than $15) and there's still 6 days left in new deals...  I'm not spending over $50 in total.  Hopefully.

It's now official that all of my PC gaming friends from the old days have officially moved onto consoles.  I'm the only one left who plays the majority of my games on PC.  Perhaps I should actually start using my PS3 for more games instead of using it 85% of the time as a blu-ray player.

Happy 4th of July.  Off to party.

If you were a pirate, where would your hideout be and what would it look like?

If I were a pirate and assuming I only hung out with other pirates, I wouldn't tell anyone where my hideout was or what it looked like.

If there isn't a porn called "The Sperminator" already, there is now no excuse not to make one.

What is the most beautiful destination in your city?

Expired Sweets

Imagine my surprise while at the grocery store when a worker brought out a brand new box of Hershey's Cookies & Cream Bars.  I thought they stopped making them years ago.  I don't even like chocolate that much and rarely eat it but I loved those things (along with those Crackle bars that come around every Halloween).  I bought two bars and my girlfriend bought a Kit-Kat.  I eat one when we get home and it tasted just as good as I remember.

An hour later, Danielle comes in laughing and shows me the other chocolate bar.  The expiration date was April 2010.  I grab the other bar's wrapper out of the trash and it's April 2010.  I didn't even think to check the date because the guy at the store just opened the box...  So she says that chocolate has a one-year shelf life after the expiration date so I beat it by a month, barely.  I don't know if that's true or not.  I know it's all in my head, but I've felt sick the rest of the day.

I threw the other bar out.

I Bought a New Game... oh wait...

GameStop is incompetent.  I tell myself that when I decide to pre-order just one game and I still don't listen to myself.  That's just the website.  I get the call that my game is available for pick up at the store I had it shipped to.  I go the store and they have no record of my order.  The dude working was about as helpful as a dodo... and they're extinct.

I say I just received a call yesterday to pick up my game.  He fiddles around with the computer and doesn't find anything.  He doesn't search the stockroom or offer any assistance to find out what happened except, "Uh, you should find out what happened."  I was tempted to say, "You work here, any idea on how I should go about that besides getting back onto your shitty company's shitty website?"  The idiot staff probably sold my pre-order to someone else because I came to pick it up the day after the call (even though they are supposed to hold it for 48 hours).  I can't really come to the store when I'm working in the lab until 11pm.

So I need to find out what happened so the damn company doesn't charge me a restocking fee.  On top of that, the guy tries to sell me a copy of the game I reserved without the pre-order bonuses (the only reason I pre-ordered the game from them in the first place...).

I doubt every store is run by asshats or stoners (because the second and third stores in my area aren't nearly as useless as far as I can remember) but the other stores aren't shining beacons of excellence either.

Amazon, Newegg, and anywhere but GameStop are the ways to go if you want a hassle-free shopping experience.

Rant over.

Japan

I'm so relieved that my friends and cousins in Japan all are alright after this horrible earthquake and tsunami.  I was getting worried but everyone was finally able to either contact me or another member of my extended family so everyone is accounted for.  The footage from this catastrophe is almost too surreal to watch.  My friend Kristen texted me that her entire building felt like it was about to fall right over and didn't feel safe inside or outside.  My hopes and good will go out to the Japanese people.  I plan on contributing what I can to relief efforts this weekend but I wish there were more I could do monetary-wise and in person.  I love Japan and its people, even though I've only been there four times and can only speak enough Japanese to only just barely get by without Kristen or one of my cousins with me.

As much as I'm relieved that my friends and extended family are safe, I'm really concerned about the nuclear reactor problems that the quake has set into motion and I hope the worst possible outcome is avoided (news programs have been mentioning Chernobyl and that's never a good place to mention when nuclear reactors might meltdown).

Best comedy that has graced TV in years.  So NBC will probably cancel it.
